Tongariro field notes

An independent planning guide to Tongariro National Park, Aotearoa New Zealand. Track lines are traced from OpenStreetMap and elevations from Open-Meteo, so distances and climbs are estimates. Always check the latest conditions with DOC before you go.

Respect

The volcanoes are tapu (sacred) to Ngāti Tūwharetoa and Ngāti Rangi. Don’t climb Ngāuruhoe, don’t touch the water of the Emerald and Blue Lakes or Rotokura, and leave no trace.
